Reviews of Visualizing Categorical Data

The author Michael Friendly, who wrote The SAS System for Statistical Graphics, is once again on the frontier of visualization of statistical information with his new book on methods to explore and summarize categorical data. This book is an excellent resource for anyone who analyses categorical data, from the statistical novice to the seasoned statistical professional. The author utilizes many real-life examples such as data from the sinking of the Titanic to clearly explain the statistics and novel visualization methods. He dramatically unfolds the story of the data through the integration of data analysis, graphical displays, and interpretation. The book provides over thirty macros and programs that can be used to easily generate graphic displays. This book is enjoyable to read and provides a fresh look at categorical data analysis from a visualization perspective, making the statistics come alive.
